1. Dear Educators, Administrators, and Friends,
For those of you who have not already heard the sad news, the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum will be closing
its doors permanently at 7:30 pm on Sunday, May 11. As a thank you to the community, the Museum is offering
FREE admission through May 11. The museum is open daily from 9:30 am - 7:30 pm (last entry at 7:00 pm).
Earlier this month, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation distributed a press release announcing the
conclusion of its 7-year tenure in Las Vegas at the Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino when the current exhibition
"Modern Masters from the Guggenheim Collection" closes on May 11, 2008. The press release is attached to
this email.
We cannot begin to tell you how saddened we are about this disappointing news, and I know many of you will be
just as disappointed as we are. We believe that the closing of the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum in Las Vegas
will be a great loss to this community, but we are also appreciative to have been a part of the presentation of 10
remarkable exhibitions of world-class art and to have had this opportunity to work with all of you. From March
2002 when Anita Getzler, our former head of education, started the CONTACT! School Tour Program to the
present day, nearly 21,000 school children and over 2,000 teachers have participated in our school program.
Thanks to the dedication and support of individuals such as yourself, as well as generous annual grants from the
Venetian Foundation, we are pleased that so many students had the opportunity to view original works of art
from Titian and Velasquez to Picasso and Pollock to treasures from ancient Egypt and tsarist Russia.
Again, thank you for all of your support. We have enjoyed working with you and hope that we will be able to stay
in touch with many of you!
